Vowel Harmony
In Turkish, there are two type of vowels. The Suffixes depend on last vowel letter of a word.
- Bold Vowels = a, ı, o, u
- Thin Vowels = e, i, ö, ü
Examples for -da, -de (Preposition);
- elmada (on the apple)
- kızda (at the girl)
- yolda (on the road)
- suda (on the water)
- evde (at home)
- şehirde (in the city)
- önde (ahead)
- gülde (on the rose)
Examples for -dı, -du, -di, -dü (Past Tense);
- kaldı (he stayed)
- ısırdı (he bit)
- koydu (he put)
- buldu (he found)
- geldi (he came)
- sildi (he deleted)
- gördü (he saw)
- güldü (he laughed)
